Community Engagement is one of the key services seescape offers. During the current lockdown, we have developed alternative ways of keeping in touch with clients. Volunteers are contacting our social group members via telephone and some of our befrienders have now evolved into telephone befrienders to ensure that no-one is alone and isolated. The feedback from our clients has been so appreciative that they have someone to chat to on a regular basis.
We’re also in the process of recruiting more telephone befrienders and offering a package of support to prepare them for undertaking this crucial role remotely, including resources, and live Question and Answers sessions via Zoom. Top tips from Kirstie our Community Engagement Coordinator about working from home – when making phone calls make sure you can remain undisturbed; clear a space so you aren’t surrounded by clutter (that extra couple of minutes in the morning helps make all the difference); have a storage box, drawer, or another place, you can keep all your work-related stuff out of the way of other things at home and pack up at the end of the working day; keep hydrated; make sure you are near daylight and sit close to windows so you can see outside (helps so you’re not looking at the screen for too long); take a break every so often, go outside, make a cuppa, ask your partner what’s for tea?!, do a jigsaw with your kids, etc; – anything that breaks up the day into manageable chunks 😊.
